Detailed Rules for Implementation of Visa and Residence Management


 

According to the regulations of “The Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China” and “Management Methods on Admission and Cultivation of International Students by Educational Institutions”, and combined with the specific requirements on visa and residence management for international students (hereinafter referred to as “international students”), the detailed rules for implementation are hereby formulated.

 

Article 1 When an international student who applies to study in the University is admitted, he/she shall apply for visa to the Chinese embassies and consulates in his/her country. If the study period in the University exceeds 180 days, X1 visa shall be applied, and the duration of stay after entry shall be 30 days; if the study period in the University is no more than 180 days, X2 visa shall be applied. The valid entry period, period of stay, and number of entries of X2 visa shall be determined by Chinese embassies and consulates in his/her country.

Article 2 The international students with X1 visa must apply for and handle residence permit before expiration of visa. If the international students with X2 visa need to learn continuously after the scheduled period of study, they should apply for extended learning to the university in advance and apply to Nanjing Public Security Bureau Entry-Exit Administration for handling residence permit.

Article 3 When checking in or changing lodging place after entry, an international student shall go to the public security station near to his/her domicile within 24 hours and declare accommodation registration.

Article 4 The residence permit of international students with scholarship and international students of intercollegiate exchanges shall be handled according to the time limit of their study; international students at their own expense shall handle residence permit according to time limit for paying tuition and accommodation fee, the period of validity of which shall not exceed the learning time registered in the university.

Article 5 The following documents are needed for residence permit application:

1. The originals and photocopies of valid passport and visa of the international student;

2. The official letter of our university with duration of study indicated and “Admission Letter”;

3. Original of “Visa Application Form for Study in China” (JW201 form or JW202 form);

4. Completing “Application form of Foreigner’s Visa and Reside nce Permit” and sticking with one recent two-inch front bareheaded white-grounded colored photo;

5. Registration certificate of temporary accommodation;

6. Health certificate issued by Nanjing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

Article 6 Residence permit registration items include: the name, gender, and date of birth, purpose of residence, deadline of residence, date and place of issuance, and passport number. Where the registration matters change, or the address or institution of study is changed, the international student should apply for changes within ten days since date of change to Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office.

Article 7 The purpose of stay for residence of permit of international students is “study”. If an international student needs to take a part-time job off campus in duration of study, with consent of the university, the international student shall apply for residence certificate indicating the place of part-time job and termination and other information to Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office. If the study-typed residence certificate held by an international student does not indicate the information as specified, the international student can’t take a part-time job off campus. Any international student who takes a job illegally will be reported to and dealt with public security organizations.

Article 8 International Students must leave China before their residence permit expires, and those who want to continue their study should handle extension procedures application before expiration of residence permit. For any extension or changes of residence permit, International Students need to apply to Overseas Education College at least one month in advance to issue the relevant evidential materials. Foreign Students should pay close attention to the period of validity of passport, visa, and residence permit, and handle in time the extension formalities. The Foreign Students who stay or reside illegally when visa and residence permit expire will be reported to and dealt with the public security organization.

Article 9 If any international student returns to his/her country or go to other countries or regions during studying period due to illness or matters, he/she must register by Overseas Education College, and may only go through the exit formalities after approval of our university.

Article 10 The passport, visa, and residence permit should be properly kept. Where a visa or residence permit held by an international student in China is lost, damaged, stolen or robbed, reissue shall be done timely to Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office. If a visa is lost, the holder should report the loss to public security organizations in a timely manner, then let Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office issue a certificate, and finally applies to embassy of the country in China for reissue. After a new passport is reissued, the holder should timely apply to Nanjing Municipal Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Office for a new residence permit.

Article 11 While the passport of an international student is being handled, the international student may stay legally within the territory of China with the receipt of acceptance.

Article 12 All the specific matters relating to the international students’ residence and visa management are involved, it shall be implemented in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.

Article 13 The detailed rules shall come into force since date of issuance.
