Bachelor Civil Engineering

Cultivation Plan of Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program for International Students

 

 

I. Cultivation Goals and Requirements

1. Cultivation Goals of the Major

The major is oriented to the needs of the society, and based on broad general education, it cultivates high quality civil engineering technical talents enjoying the coordinated development of knowledge, ability and quality, and having solid theoretical foundation in civil engineering and strong engineering practice ability. Students have a solid engineering technical foundation and professional knowledge in a wide range of fields such as mathematics, mechanics, structural design, structural analysis, etc., and are competent in the technical and management work of various types of engineering such as housing, roads and bridges, have an international perspective, and can become future-oriented senior professionals. Graduates have the ability to work in civil engineering design, construction and management, project planning and research and development.

2. Competency Requirements for Graduation

(1) Ability to apply engineering science. Be able to apply mathematics to solve technical problems in civil engineering, including problem identification, equation building and solution, etc.; apply basic principles of physics and chemistry to analyze engineering problems, and have basic skills in physical and chemical experiments.

(2) Ability to apply civil engineering mechanics. Have a clear basic concept of mechanical problems in civil engineering, and have the ability of proficient computation, analysis and experiment.

(3) Ability to apply the fundamentals of civil engineering technology. Have the ability to reasonably select civil engineering materials for specific projects; to apply the basic principles of surveying and use measuring instruments skillfully for surveying and mapping of general engineering projects and construction setting-out; to apply the basic theory of projection and drawing methods to make engineering drawings; to prepare simple computer programs based on the needs of engineering problems and preliminarily apply common engineering software.

(4) Ability to perform experiments, computation and analysis. Have the ability to formulate experimental plans for basic civil engineering technology, complete experiments independently, and organize, count and analyze experimental data; have the ability to make reasonable calculation assumptions for actual projects, determine structural calculation sketches, and make correct judgments on calculation results; and have the ability to make preliminary system management of all information for engineering projects based on BIM.

(5) Ability of engineering site selection and architectural design Be familiar with engineering geological problems frequently arise in engineering construction, and have the preliminary ability to reasonably select engineering sites; be able to reasonably select routes according to traffic planning requirements and topographic maps; be able to initially judge the rationality of planning; and be able to carry out simple architectural designs.

(6) Ability of civil engineering design. Be able to select reasonable structural systems, structural forms and calculation methods, and correctly design basic components of civil engineering according to the requirements of engineering projects; be able to perform the model selection and design of foundations for general civil engineering according to engineering characteristics and geological conditions of construction sites; be able to perform the model selection, analysis and design of a civil engineering structure in houses, bridges, highways, railroads and underground works according to planning, use functions and geological conditions, and be able to correctly express design results; be able to carry out seismic design of simple engineering structures.

(7) Ability of civil engineering construction. Be able to reasonably formulate the construction plan of general engineering projects, have the preliminary ability to prepare construction organization design and organize the implementation of unit engineering projects, and be able to analyze the factors affecting the construction schedule and put forward the preliminary plan for dynamic adjustment; have the ability to evaluate the quality of projects, and put forward the preliminary solution to the quality defects appearing in the construction process; be able to prepare the project budget estimate and have the preliminary ability of project cost control; be able to correctly analyze various safety hazards in the construction process and put forward effective preventive measures. Have the preliminary ability to prevent and handle emergencies related to civil engineering.

(8) Economic management ability. Have the basic skills to conduct technical and economic analysis of engineering projects and propose reasonable quality control methods. Have the ability to propose effective engineering maintenance and rectification plans based on the problems that arise during the first operation of the built projects.

(9) Ability of professional norms. Have humanities and social science literacy, sense of social responsibility, and the ability to understand and comply with engineering professional ethics and norms and fulfill responsibilities in engineering practice.

(10) Ability of information collection and expression. Have strong professional foreign language reading ability, basic written and oral expression ability; be able to understand the latest technology development trend in this field, and have the ability to search literature and select relevant technical information at home and abroad. (11) Communication and cooperation ability. Be able to correctly understand the relationship between civil engineering and related majors, have good ability of communication and cooperation with related professionals and strong interpersonal skills, and be good at listening and understanding the needs of owners and clients.

(12) Lifelong learning ability. Have a sense of self-directed and lifelong learning, and the ability to continuously learn and adapt to development.

Standard length of schooling: 4 years

Degree awarded: Bachelor of Engineering

IV. Basic Requirements for Graduation and Requirements for Degree Awarding

Basic requirements for graduation: Those who complete all the contents specified in the cultivation plan of the major within the specified period of schooling, acquire the required credits of various courses and the minimum 165 credits required for graduation, and meet the graduation requirements in morality, intelligence and physical fitness, will be allowed to graduate.

Requirements for the awarding of the degree: Graduates of this major who meet the relevant provisions of the Detailed Rules for the Implementation of Awarding the Bachelor's Degree of Nanjing Tech University will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering degree.
